The other day I was at a birthday party for a family friend and was engaged in an interesting conversation with a group of active older adults. Of course, wherever I go, the conversation always turns to real estate; once someone knows I’m an agent, they always want to pick my brain. Our conversation topic: Active adults and where they are choosing to retire. Typically, when you hear someone is retiring, you ask if they are planning to move to Florida, but the new trend is for retirees to sell their homes and move into active living communities. The 55+ range of individuals who are retiring and looking to downsize have many options these days and its starting to become a trend for those retirees to move to communities where their friends have already started to move into. You might think that the options are limited; but that’s far from the truth. In Delaware County, Chester County, Montgomery County, and Lancaster County; there are communities specifically designed for the 55+ crowd. Some are located on golf courses, near community parks, shopping areas or in the middle of the country. Based on your desires and interests there is a community for you.
One of the main points I made during my conversation was to talk to a realtor who had experience in selling homes of individuals who were retiring and relocating into a smaller home in an active adult community. I told them of my experiences of working with multiple clients whom have sold their home and moved into an active adult community, all of whom after detailed conversations; we were able to pick communities that were tailored to their individual needs and desires. So, if you are an active older adult looking to retire or just downsize, or you know someone, maybe your parents, who are interested in moving into a community where their needs are taken care of, tell them to contact me.
