As you know from my previous “Morning Business..” blog, I am on a mission to fix the missing screws from the door knobs in my house. So, I set off to complete the job, anticipating it would take one trip to one hardware store, little did I know this wouldn’t be as easy as I thought. Of course, I needed six screws for the old lock system. I wanted all of the screws to match keep everything as authentic as possible in my old house. Again, I figured how hard can it be to find six of the same screws?
I ended up going to six hardware stores to find the screws. Six! Yes, six different stores around the Main Line to find six, not fifty, but only six screws. And of course when I finally found the screws I needed, I dropped the entire bin and 150 screws or so went flying all over the floor. I spent the next hour cleaning up all of the screws I dropped.
Recap of this six screw project:
-7 years staring at the missing screws, being frustrated and annoyed
-2 hours of driving around Ardmore, Haverford and Wynnewood to six different hardware stores to find them
-1 hour to pick up the screws I dropped
-60 seconds to screw in the missing screws
-Total spent-$1.75.
Lesson learned: The prep time will take much longer than the actually fixing time. But, the reward is worth the effort.
