This week I was in West Chester (19382) recently showing clients homes near Rustin High School. The first two homes we walked in were immaculately clean and tidy. You could tell the home owners took pride in their home and wanted to sell their home and receive an offer from every potential homebuyer that walked through their front door. However, after walking through two very tidy homes, where you could tell even young children lived, we walked through one home that was the complete opposite. After opening the front door we were welcomed by the smell of kitty litter (a big turn-off and something I have previously posted about). Not only was the smell of kitty litter something that welcomed us, but also a cluttered kitchen and toys not returned to their proper homes in the family room. It is hard to always have your home “show ready” if you have young children, but it will help a potential homebuyer be able to picture themselves and their belongings in your home if they are not distracted by the dolls and race cars on the floor. I tell my clients to picture their belongings in the home and overlook the clutter when they are easily distracted by an unkempt home, but there is nothing I can do about the first impression after crossing the threshold of a home. To all home sellers this is just a friendly reminder to keep your home “show ready.” The market is hot right now and homes are selling quickly. If you want your home to show to sell, make sure you keep your home and the kitty litter clean as well.
